For the past month we've had "Baseball Weekend" planned. We've been ridiculously excited about it (the boys too) and on Friday, our exciting weekend began. We started with a trip to Grandma and Grandpa's for the night, which of course led to late bedtimes and lots of giggles.
On Saturday morning we left bright an early for a day in Chapel Hill. It was Teague's first visit and both the boys first time at a UNC baseball game (and our first time at the new stadium). We'd planned to walk around campus, buy new UNC gear and have lunch at Cosmic Cantina (it was Cinco de Mayo afterall).
We started at the Bell Tower (where Chris proposed).
The boys loved running around it (and in the grass), but once it started to chime, they found it to be way too loud.
We headed to the pit and Student Stores.
Teague loved the pit. Even when we walked by later he called it by name. He also loved the Rameses in the window at Student Stores.
Shopping for some new Carolina gear.
Teague wanted it all, Neland just wanted to run around.
After our shopping excursion, we headed up the quad to Franklin Street. There were a few seniors in caps and gowns taking pictures.
Neland asked to carry his bookbag, and I wasn't going to argue with him - it was heavy!
Teague loved all the squirrels and birds.
Cosmic Cantina was a huge HIT. We got there right at the perfect time too. There was a huge table leaving when we walked in, and as we were leaving the line was out the door. While we were there, it was pretty much just us. We laughed at how it looked exactly the same (except the AC wasn't leaking from the ceiling from what we noticed). After lunch we visited the Old Well with the new baseball hats we'd picked up at Johnny T-shirt. Teague was insistent he get this one and no other.
Our self portrait.
We took the boys to the student union where there is a fish tank given as a class gift (our class gave benches in front of the undergrad library). Then we finally made it to baseball game. The boys were totally into it for all the sugar - frozen lemonade, snow cones, dippin' dots.
We even spotted Roy Williams.
Unfortunately the crazy heat with a tired toddler who could not be satisfied with any amount of sugar did us in. After making it 2 hours and 4 innings (with Chris and I taking turns walking with Teague), we called it a day. Walking back to the car, Neland asked "Is this college?" I told him it was to which he replied, "Oh I like college."Once in the car and decided to drive by a few other spots, the business school, the Dean Dome, our old apartment complex. Teague was asleep in less than 10 minutes and in less than 15 minutes it started pouring. It could not have worked out better for us (except if it hadn't been 1000 degrees and then poured, but since it did, it couldn't have worked out better). We'd hoped to take the boys to Elmo's Diner for dinner, but with the crazy rains and a tired toddler we headed back to Grandma and Grandpa's (with a short stop to let the rain pass). We found out later the Heels won, after a 4 1/2 hour rain delay. They actually swept the series (against Boston College) and won the ACC regular season.
