the perfect saturday morning

Saturdays, or "Daddy days" as Neland calls them are the best.

Here's Tman, who slept later than all of us, finding Daddy.  All Friday he sang, "Daddy, Daddy, Daddy O" (sung to the tune of Justin Bieber's Baby Baby Baby O).

Neland wanted to make pancakes this morning.  He and Chris got to work.

The boys enjoyed plain, chocolate chip and apple cinnamon pancakes.

Then some play time.  Amazingly both boys sat to play with playdough.

It has been raining for days!!  With a break in the clouds, we went puddle hunting. We found lots of puddles, slippery mud and even a few turtles.
this one makes me laugh.  we had to develop a strategy of chris on one side and me on the other to block tman from going over the edge!
Teague is slighty obsessed with climbing on benches.  He kept saying "sit, sit" and when his boot fell, "uh oh" and "boot"... he has become such a talker!
one reason i love a rainy day - those curls!!!
a few wet leaves completed our journey (and i feel the need to mention neland dressed himself and would not compromise, and well, it wasn't a battle i wanted to fight)

Such a fabulous morning! We LOVE "daddy days"!

the dentist

Neland had his first trip to the dentist (just about a year late).  He was a little nervous, but was very brave.

When the hygienist showed Neland each instrument he asked, "Does it hurt?"
He picked those cool shades.

Chris stayed with him during the cleaning (Neland got to choose who went back with him, and of course I was stuck trying to entertain a crazy Tman... note to self, make the next appointment when stores are open so I can take Teague some where...anywhere).  I took Teague to the car to play. He chose to climb into Neland's seat and look at Neland's playmobil book.  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
He survived!  And actually liked it!

one more beach thing...

On the way home from lunch Saturday, Neland said,
"Teague I love you and I'll never let you see bad things or drop you in the deep deep ocean."

B*E*A*CH (again)

Our last two days at the beach were considerably cooler.  The highs were in the mid 70s.  Chris said we'd still be able to go swimming which we made sure he did (unfortunately Neland did not understand and wanted to go as well, which I let him, he shivered a lot).  We spent Friday and Saturday at the aquarium, playing mini-golf, hitting our favorite restaurants in the area (getting the best key lime pie ever), seeing wild horses, celebrating Florida day, and getting hot chocolate.
 At the aquarium...

Um, whose personality does this fit better?
The next few pictures are from their big tank (the biggest on the east coast I think). Teague was captivated by it.  It was by far his favorite spot.  He'd run to the glass, then lay in the middle of the floor pretending to swim.  There were a few scuba divers in the tank and one blew bubbles for Teague, gave him a high five and took his picture with an underwater camera.

 Neland's crafty scuba gear...
 Ice cream

We left Saturday morning to play miniature golf and someone fell asleep on the drive there. Woody is in his hand (notice the boots).

 Chris and I lost miserably!

We avoided the big football game and went for hot chocolate!
Saying our goodbyes to the beach (and the dolphins)...such a sad goodbye!

B*E*A*C*H (picture overload ahead)

Last week was by far our best vacation ever!  Neland was so excited that the whole trip there he kept asking when we were getting off the highway.  I finally told him he had to stop asking so the next time we made a turn he said, "Hey guys, what's going on?".  Little smarty pants!  We were excited to introduce Teague to the ocean and he did not disappoint. We walked out as soon as our car was unloaded (quite a feat in itself), no swim suits, no ear plugs (for those sleep-saving tubes).  Teague was in his element.  He sat down, he rolled on his belly and he ventured so far out that Dali (who truly dislikes water) decided she needed to go check on him.

Monday through Thursday we developed a great routine.  We get up to the sound Teague screaming at about 6am and try to get the kids out of the door before waking every one else up.  We'd walk on the beach before coming back to breakfast.  After breakfast we'd pack up the wagon and head to the beach.  After a few hours at the beach, we'd have lunch at the house and then put Teague down for a much needed nap.  Neland would play in the pool in the backyard (as he referred to it) until Teague was finished with his nap.  While Neland played, Grandma and I beat the boys in multiple games of pool volleyball.  There were also jump contests and races. Then we might walk on the beach, look for deer (they were everywhere) or play until dinner and bedtime.
A morning walk - always in pajamas!
Teague took a quick trip to the desert
This year, we stayed at "the point".  It is where the ocean and sound meet at the very end of the island.  The boys could play in the sound or the ocean (or the tidal pools).
Neland was a little worried about sharks so he didn't venture too far into the water, although he did get brave a few times and jump waves. We saw dolphins quite a few times and I think I convinced him that if there were dolphins around, there weren't sharks.   He loved having the pool at the house (it was something new for all of us). For some reason he is growing more and more scared of swimming (and being dropped), so this was a good experience for him.  Hopefully he won't be scared in swim lessons tomorrow.

Dad was buried in the sand.
Doesn't it look like he was run over?  The "D" is for Dad.
Much needed rest!
Teague was a terror at the pool so he did not get to visit as often as Neland.
Neland finally had the courage to get off the steps by the last warm day!
An evening walk to see the deer (look at those beachy curls!!)
Terrible pic, but tons of deer!
 Beautiful harvest moon!
A few more beach pictures from our last warm day there!

I'll post later what we did on our two cooler days!  (we definitely need two weeks next year)
