perfect fall days

Our last warm days of the season we made sure to take advantage of being outside without bundling up.

We flew kites (or just ran with them behind us).
Mowed the grass on our street (and the street).
Rolled pumpkins down the front hill (of course this is every time we're outside, not just warm weather days).

And created a masterpiece (more to come on that).
 Then, it turned cold...
We visited a pumpkin patch right down the road (a minute away, one that every day we pass and Neland begs to visit).  The chickens were a hit!

The duck race was definitely fixed (Grandpa won).
Grandma got lost in the maze.
Teague figured the best way out.
Both boys loved the vintage toy tractor
 and the car.
We found a few pumpkins (although no pictures from the patch - I didn't even see the boys make it out to the actual patch).

Then we were off for a sing along hayride (some of NJ's favorites, Purple People Eaters, Witch Doctor...although he didn't sing).
We passed the strawberries we'll pick next spring.
Then rode through the beautiful trees.

And it was back to the chickens.

I'm so glad we made it before the season was over!  This farm is adorable and very dear (I taught the oldest daughter).  We tried to convince them to bring in some Christmas trees this winter.  Fingers crossed!

fall leaves

The other afternoon Chris blew the leaves in the back yard into a pile and I couldn't resist getting the boys attention. They loved it and if it hadn't been so cold they may have played all afternoon.

With all the trees in the back, I'm pretty sure we'll get a few more moments of this.

this week

This is a random post about things that have been happening this week.

Teague has been picking up words everywhere.  It still shocks me how well he talks and how many words he knows.  One of his favorite things to say is "I did it".  He gets very excited and will say "I did it" when he accomplishes anything (such as drawing all over the 18 month old evaluation at his check up).
In the mornings when he wakes up, if it's still quiet in the house, I'll pick him up (after he's grabbed his horse "and dog" as he says - which Chris now has named "and dog", and blanket) and he'll point to his chair and say either "chair" or "rock".  It is so sweet.
He also says "Neland" now.  When Neland was younger he called himself "Neely" which we loved.  We wondered if Teague would call him Neely as well, but Teague pronounces Neland with a "d" at the end (sort of, but it doesn't sound like Neely).

We often call Teague our big guy, or our chunky monkey.  I was a little shocked when at his 18 month check up he weighed in at 23 lbs and 13 ozs and 33 inches.  Our ped. even had him remeasured because he was shocked at the 33 inches, Teague is usually in the 40% range for height, but this was close to 70%.  He is definitely 33 inches - he was completely still for both measurements (thank you lollipops).  I checked Neland's stats at 18 months because Neland was such a little guy, short and skinny.  Neland was 23 lbs even and 32 inches.  It is crazy to me that there isn't that much difference between them.  Even in pictures Teague looks so much heavier!  I'll try and find a comparison (I just received our pictures from Bower Studio that we took for Tman's 18 month mark so I'll post one from her session of NJ at 18 months and one of Tman at 18 months).
The boys waiting for our ped to come in.
Neland has been working really hard on learning to ride his bike.  He is not a fan of things that take a while to learn.  I thought it might be fun to take him out of our cul-de-sac, so off to the greenways we went on Tuesday.  I loaded Teague in the stroller and had one hand on it and one hand on Neland.  Neland did so well!  I was so excited for him and he was so excited too!
Imagine me, taking the picture, pushing the stroller, and saying, "good job, steer, pedal, keeping going, use the brake, brake, brake, steer, watch out for the people, steer this way, keeping going, you're doing awesome, pedal, pedal, brake, you're doing it!"  A little stressful, but completely worth it!  He's so excited to ride his bike now (and we even had a minor falling off incident).

After the beginning of the week, the weather turned a bit cooler, and rainy.  It was perfect movie weather.  Sometimes I forget how exciting "movie day" is for Neland (maybe that's because movie day is usually my cleaning day since he's occupied for a couple hours).  I picked up NJ from school and announced it was movie day.  He was so excited.  He picked Cars to watch and to make it extra special I made him some hot chocolate and popcorn.
He enjoyed his special snack and movie and I cleaned the kitchen - even the ceiling fan.

And last....
Every time I see this Playmobil guy I just want to yell, "Don't Jump"!  It's a whole story down, which considering the scale of him, is probably like 100 stories.  He's been there for about a week so hopefully I have some time to talk him down.

the pumpkin patch

Since Neland was 3 months old, we've been visiting the same pumpkin patch every year.  It's an authentic patch, with a tractor ride out to the field where the pumpkins are fresh cut from the vines.  There's also a barn with animals, lots of farm gear, and a playground of silo slides.  Last year, our playgroup met there and picnicked.  It was such a fun experience we did it again this year.

Teague was captivated by the chickens right away.
The tractor ride out to the patch!

Once the tractor stopped, the boys were OFF!  The field was not as big and green as last year so it was much easier to run!

We visited the animals once we returned to the farm.
Two turkeys trying to climb into the turkey pens!
Everyone was ready to eat.  The boys headed to the picnic table.
And we made the guys carry the food.  I have to give Chris credit, the cooler was crazy heavy!
Then it was time to play!
Thinking back on our tradition of pumpkin picking makes me hope that the boys have as fond memories as I do.  Here are a few pictures from previous trips:
