School's out for the summer!

Neland has his last day of 3 year old preschool on Friday.  We have been so blessed to have Miss Jean for two years in a row, and I knew Neland loved Miss Karen when he asked to go home with her on the first day.

He made cards for the first day. They say "This year is going to BEE great!

May 2011
We had no sign for the last day, but if we did it would have said "This year BUZZED by" (still pondering making it and mailing it to his teachers).

 Teacher gifts from our class.
There are pictures of each student and the phrase "My Cup Runneth Over" from Psalms as well as a little note of thanks.

This is what Neland has to put up with from Teague.

The kids got beach balls at the party, they were a hit!
 Teague tackles Neland.
Each year the teachers make scrapbooks for each child with pictures and achievements made through the year.  Definitely a priceless treasure!!
Teague is ready to be in Miss Karen's class!
(one day I'd run to the bathroom at school and while washing my hands, Teague ran out into the hallway. I heard a voice say "Hello Teague" and as I walked out I see Teague, wrapped around Miss Karen's legs)

And now begins Camp Mommy!  Day 1!

Do you recognize this?

Because Teague does. He recognizes their brown bags containing yummy baked goods.   He also recognizes the sound of the bags if you put your hand in it to pull out said baked good when driving away from the drive thru.  I find myself sharing more and more.  The other day I had my car door open as I was putting Teague in and he started pointing and screaming (which seems to always be his sound of choice).  It took me a minute to figure out what he wanted, but there it was in the door pocket, a brown starbucks bag.  It was empty and had trash in it, but poor Teague thought it had yummy treats.

Strawberry Picking

Last Tuesday it was cloudy, cool and rained occasionally.  This seemed like the perfect day to pick some strawberries (well, maybe not, but everyday we've tried to go has been like this, so today it wasn't stopping us).  The strawberry field is less than a mile from our house.  I know the owners of the farm from my time teaching, I was lucky enough to have taught their oldest daughter (a complete sweetheart).  Because of the weather, we were the ONLY ones there! Every year the farm gets bigger and bigger and this year the boys had a blast.

Before we even made it to the strawberries the boys had to see the chickens!
Neland fed the chickens (he threw the cup at them and ran, hence the bad pic!).  He was scared they'd bite!

Neland ran off to do the maze, and Teague followed him (although Teague just went under the ropes)
They had a duck race, this was by far Neland's favorite thing.
 Teague enjoyed helping.

Finally off to the strawberries (and then my camera died)!

Our loot (plus half a dozen fresh eggs!)
Neland's first time cooking on the stove - he was a pro!
 "We're chefs Mommy"
 Enjoying his hard work!

Yum! They were all gone by the next day!

Swimming Lessons, Take 2

Today Teague had his second swimming lesson.  He was all smiles until we entered the water, then the screams started AGAIN.  Our instructor gave him a ball, he still screamed.  All the other kids were having fun putting balls in the bucket and Teague was screaming.  Then, something happened, I'm not sure what.  He either splashed me and laughed and it calmed it down or he realized that swimming is just like a big bath tub.  The rest of class he LOVED it.  He giggled, he played, he did everything he was supposed to.  He even begged to go down the slide twice.  I was so proud of my boy!  Maybe he will be my little fish after all.

Playing Catch

This is one of Neland's favorite games.  The other day we were outside playing hide and seek and Neland asked Chris if they could play catch instead.  Chris said sure, opened the door and told Neland to go get a ball.  Neland said, "No not catch a ball, catch people" and ran off for Chris to chase him.  Chris had forgotten that Neland's game "catch" is the same as what most people call tag or chase.

Teague's Baptism

Teague was baptized today at our church, Covenant Presbyterian.  We've been attending Covenant for about a year and it's definitely become our church home (we joined in December).  Yesterday Chris and I had baptism counseling along with two other couples.  We both knew the basic meaning of baptism, but we definitely learned a lot more about what this would mean for our sweet boy, us and for the congregation which left us even more excited about Sunday.

We arrived very early on Sunday (pretty sure this is a first for us, after dropping the kids off at Sunday school we usually make it to the sanctuary right after all the beginning music and the welcome).  For the first time Neland sat in a pew.  Granny and Grandma sat with him and Chris, Teague, Grandpa (who served as our elder), and I went to a conference room downstairs.  We prepped for the baptism and Teague enjoyed running down the hall, climbing on the table and sitting in the chairs.

Once it was close to our time to enter the sanctuary, we went to a side door to wait.  Teague, along with screaming, repeatedly climbing stairs, also tried climbing the door which was quite a sight.  Once we entered the sanctuary all he wanted was to leave my grasp.  I tried swinging him, no comfort.  I put his feet on the floor and he tried to take off.  Neland had come to stand with us and gave him a huge hug.  It calmed him down enough to be held again.  Then Grandpa poured the water into the baptismal font.  Teague wanted in the water.  Our minister had been talking this entire time and at the point where Grandpa spoke to the congregation, our minister leaned over and said "I'll just let you hold him for the baptism." He asked me to step closer to the font with Teague so he could baptize him.  At this point I was trying to contain Teague's arms to keep his hands from going in.  Our sweet minister baptized him, then took his hand and placed it in the water.  (however I would love a transcript of all that was said, while I remember bits and pieces, collectively it was a blur of baby).  Grandpa then took Teague and walked in out through the congregation.

We waited for the service to end so that we could be greeted by the congregation.  It was a beautiful day so we were able to wait outside.  During our wait, Neland's Sunday school class came outside to let some butterflies go.  One of his little friend's saw him and asked him to join the group.  It was really sweet.

This was wonderful for passing the time.  When the service was over, our minister came out to greet people and we got a picture and greeting people as well.

It was wonderful to meet so many members of our church.  One of my favorite comments that I received from four or five people regarded Neland giving Teague a hug to calm him down.  Even a few people said it brought tears to their eyes at how sweet it was.  Neland is the best big brother Chris and I could ever hope for, he's so caring and loving to Teague that I'm a little sad Neland doesn't have an older brother to fill this role for him.

My other funny comment of the day relates back to Saturday.  I was very vocal about my concerns over Teague's behavior and was told it would be nothing that hasn't been seen before.  Our counselor then told us a story about an old brother that hung from his parents upside down on a leg during a baptism.  Well, while we were greeting people, one lady said that she'd definitely remember Teague's baptism and the only other one she remembered was when a kid was hanging onto a leg upside down, but that this was much better.  It's nice to know we're making a name for ourselves in the church.

We went to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Roosters, where of course, Teague slept.

First Swim Lessons

Two weeks ago, Neland started swim lessons (he took them last year as well but we put him back into the same level since it's been so long and he has always been so timid around water).  This week, Teague started lessons as well.  I was so excited for his first class.  Teague is a crazy kid in the bath tub.  He splashes, he dunks his head, he lays down.  I knew he'd love this.

Right before class started
Getting into the water

The screaming starts
 and keeps going
 and going
 and going
the look on his face in this one cracks me up!!
Then it's finally over (I do not know why I'm smiling...must be the "why in the world did I think this was a good idea smile")

After taking Neland to his last music class, we drove back for Neland's lesson.  Of course the entire time Teague tried to make his way to the pool.  Figures!

blowing bubbles

 He's so confident this year!!
His favorite part - down the slide!!

Hoping next week is much smoother!
