trick or treat

Wrapping up all the Halloween excitement! Trick or treating is finally here!

Both boys loved trick or treating. We went with their friends and while Neland was self sufficient and ran ahead quite a bit, Teague took his time and examined each piece of candy before placing it in his pumpkin. He made sure to say "trick or treat" and "thank you" and occasionally "happy Halloween". At one point he said, "I got a lot of candy." When we finished up we were walking back to our friend's house and passed a few houses that the boys wanted to trick or treat at (possibly for the second time), Teague had handed Chris his pumpkin saying it was heavy but quickly turned and said, "I need this, I'm going trick or treating."

Neland and his buddy were dressed as Spiderman and Bumblebee. Somewhere in the middle of trick or treating they met up with another Spiderman and Bumblebee, also trick or treating together, in the same exact costumes - only the other pair were about four inches taller.

Teague's costume was a hit! We didn't see another Cookie Monster the whole time we were out. I love that he has Elmo stamps on his hands from playing earlier. Chris and I both agreed that 2 is a perfect trick or treating age.

Now lets hope all the scary decorations are removed promptly tomorrow so Neland doesn't have to close his eyes throughout part of his trip to school.

spider hunt

Each year our playgroup celebrates Halloween either with a party or trick or treating. And each year our host has a spider hunt for the kids. This year our outing has been shortened a bit so I decided to take on the spider hunt at home.

It might be the easiest hunt there is - I throw spider rings into the yard and the kids pick them up. If only that worked with laundry or books in their room - it's more the opposite there, they throw, I pick up. Our playgroup Halloween host usually has a bag and lights for the kids to search with which makes it super fun.

Of course in the end I had them sort, count and compare - once a teacher, always a teacher.

crafty halloween

We are not into spooky and scary Halloweens, but crafty Halloweens are a must.

monster eyes - you can see some eye slits in the one Neland is holding, after painting them we put glow sticks in them so the eyes would glow

And of course we can't have Halloween without Halloween cookies!
Neland did a great job with the cookie cutters, Teague chose to make snakes.
We decorated them the next day.
Neland has zigzags on his face because they had drama at school and acted out "Where the Wild Things Are" Neland was Max.

Teague would take a bite and then add more sprinkles.
 This just screams HALLOWEEN!

baby it's cold outside

I promise I brushed his hair before we left the house - I did not however tie his shoes.

guess what we did this weekend

We added a little variety this weekend, with a trip to the greenways instead of a park, but then stuck with the same pumpkin patch as last week. This weekend was extra special because Grandma and Grandpa were visiting.

a little science lesson on the trails

lots of crunchy leaves under foot

Teague collected a few leaf samples

Our favorite art studio had an open house.

There was also cake this weekend - lots of cake.
