Our sweet and crazy baby turned 2 today. We started celebrating Saturday when we had the grandparents come over for lunch.
Neland had asked Teague what kind of cake he wanted, and Teague consistently said "Elmo cake". So I attempted an Elmo cake, with a smile on my face (even when the orange icing exploded on me, the cake and the counter).
Teague talked about the cake the rest of the day. He LOVED it. He's mentioned it every day since as well. While eating it, he'd sing "Happy Birthday" and sometimes it was Elmo's birthday.
The rest of the day included some presents and a wagon ride. Teague is very blessed to have grandparents that gave him the gift of preschool for his birthday. I know he will be so excited to start in the fall (and Neland's teachers have even said there may be some fighting over him - which is crazy because he's pure trouble while we are there). Teague loves to run into Neland's room (with a bookbag, as he usually refuses to leave the car without one), wash his hands and sit down in a seat as fast as he can (probably hoping I'll forget that he's supposed to come with me). He's also very good at stall tactics such as saying he has to give Neland a kiss goodbye, then a hug goodbye, then he has to say bye to Bryce, or Quinn, the list goes on. At the end of the day, when Chris asks who Neland played with, Teague will yell "I play with Bryce" or Quinn or Jack...just insert a name from Neland's class. He also enjoys going through Neland's lunchbox the minute we pick Neland up from school. Neland, the sweet big brother that he is, always leaves some crackers behind for him.
But back to the birthday, presents...wagon ride... it was a good day.
On Sunday, we said goodnight to our 1 year old Teague. Always a little bittersweet.
Teague was not fond of the hugs, he much preferred jumping, running around, tackling Chris. Oh so sad to say goodbye to 1 and hello to those crazy 2s.
Today Teague woke up to balloons hanging in the hall, presents on the table and a special breakfast at Terrace Cafe.
We picked out special cupcakes after breakfast. Teague was very upset he did not get to eat it right away and to curb the tears we offered a compromise (or bribe) of a lollipop.
We'd hoped to take Teague to the playground after breakfast but it was raining, so instead we headed home and opened gifts.
Teague received a stomp rocket, a bath toy and a Sesame Street toy (that he ALWAYS played with at Target). The stomp rocket had him entertained for almost an hour.
Our 2 year old badly needed a nap as he'd gone 3 days without one, so he was asleep for most of the afternoon. By the time he was up, the sun was out and we could have dinner and cupcakes on the patio. I made one of Teague's favorite dinners, quinoa salad and guacamole.
After cupcakes it was bath time to play with his new toy and then bed. He needs a great night's rest for his 2 year old pictures tomorrow!
Neland wore the same shirt on his 2nd birthday as Teague did today. Just one picture from way back when.
